Foreign ministers of Iran and China held a meeting
Seyed Abbas Araghchi Iran’s Foreign Minister who traveled to Beijing at the head of a diplomatic delegation met on Wednesday morning May 6 with Wang Yi Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China and China’s Foreign Minister.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed various dimensions of bilateral relations and cooperation in different fields, including economic and trade cooperation, as well as the implementation process of agreements between the two countries.
Referring to the longstanding ties between the two great civilizations of Iran and China, Iran’s Foreign Minister described China as a close friend and strategic partner of Iran. He emphasized the strong and serious determination of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to comprehensively enhance the strategic and friendly relations between the two countries within the framework of the Iran–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, based on mutual respect and trust. He stated: “We believe that the strategic cooperation and partnership between the two countries will continue stronger than ever under the new circumstances.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister also elaborated on what he described as the crimes committed by the United States and the Israeli regime against the Iranian people and the grave violations of international humanitarian law during the forty-day imposed war. He appreciated China’s principled stance in condemning the violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter by the United States and Israel, as well as China’s responsible approach toward what he called the U.S. abuse of the United Nations Security Council.
He expressed hope that, with China assuming the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council and continuing its effective role, constructive developments would emerge to prevent the continuation of lawlessness and violations of international peace and security.
Iran’s Foreign Minister also briefed his Chinese counterpart on the latest developments related to the diplomatic process and ongoing efforts and initiatives aimed at ending the imposed war by the United States and the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the Iran–U.S. negotiations mediated by Pakistan. He stressed: “Just as Iran demonstrated strength in defending itself and remains fully prepared to confront any hostile act, it is also serious and steadfast in the field of diplomacy.”
China’s Foreign Minister praised the resistance and resilience of the Iranian people in the face of aggressors, as well as Iran’s goodwill and responsible approach, particularly the efforts of his Iranian counterpart in pursuing diplomacy and preventing further escalation in the region. He reaffirmed China’s firm support for Iran’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security, stating: “China’s principled position is opposition to the use of force and the continuation of this illegal war, whose harmful consequences affect not only Iran, but also all countries and peoples in the region and the world.”
Referring to the four-point proposal put forward by the President of China for the immediate and definitive end of the war and the establishment of lasting peace and security in the region, the Chinese Foreign Minister underscored China’s strong support for diplomacy and dialogue as the means to resolve issues.
During the meeting, the foreign ministers of Iran and China also reviewed the latest status of the implementation and follow-up of bilateral agreements and cooperation projects in various economic and trade sectors. They exchanged views on the opportunities and capacities for further expanding relations and agreed on the continuation of meetings and consultations between senior officials of the two countries.
